Color-Treated Hair and Brazilian Straightening: Important Information
At Formula 29, we strive to provide high-quality haircare products and treatments. While our Brazilian straightening formula is designed to smooth and strengthen hair, it is important to note that color-treated hair may experience some lifting or fading of tint during the treatment.
This occurs because:
- The treatment process involves opening the hair cuticle to allow smoothing agents to penetrate deeply, which can shift or lighten color molecules.
- Heat applied during the process, such as from a flat iron, may impact hair color, especially on porous or previously treated hair.
🧴 How to Use (and When to Use) with Colored Hair
To ensure optimal results and preserve your hair colour, follow these timing guidelines based on your colouring method:
🎨 For Permanent Hair Color
Apply the Formula 29 Treatment after colouring.
✅ Safe to use once color is fully developed and rinsed.
⚠️ Wait at least 24 hours before applying heat styling tools post-treatment for best colour lock-in.
💧 For Demi-Color
Apply the Formula 29 Treatment after colouring if using an alkali treatment or before if using an acidic treatment.
✅ Treatment will smooth and strengthen the hair, prepping it for even colour absorption.
⚠️ Apply the treatment to a test section of the hair to determine colour fading before treating the entire hair.
✨ For Toners & Direct Dyes
Apply the Formula 29 Treatment before toning.
✅ This ensures tone clarity and prevents pigment stripping.
❌ Avoid using the treatment after toning, especially with pastels or vivid shades.
💡 Pro Tip: If you’re using a high-precision color like platinum, silver, or fashion shades, we recommend a 48-hour wait between treatment and toning to ensure pigment accuracy and tone hold.

While permanent colours are not affected by Brazilian Treatments, toners are not permanent and will be stripped off. The good news is that you can re-tone your hair with an acidic toner.
To minimize this effect, we recommend that you consulting with your stylist or our team to determine the best approach for your specific hair type and color.
How long will it last:
Up to 38-50 washes depending on hair type, application of treatment and post treatment products used on hair.
To maximize the lasting effect of the treatment we recommended Formula 29 for use post-application.
Like all other straightening treatments, it will not survive conditions such as pool or ocean waters.
1 To 2 applications depending on hair volume and hair type
Not provided in the kit which is required:
– Hair straightener which heats up to 230 degrees Celsius
– Bowl & brush (to apply the treatment)
– Comb (to comb treatment in hair)
– Clips (for sectioning hair)
Directions For Use
1) Wash the hair with an anti-residual shampoo.
2) Rinse off till the shampoo is completely removed.
3) Remove excess water with a towel and then blow dry.
4) Apply the product with a brush, log by log leaving 1 cm from the roots.
5) Keep the product on the hair for 15 minutes.
6) Blow dry the hair using a rounded brush in order to straighten the hair while it is being blow dried.
7) After the hair is straightened, pass a flat iron 5x over the hair at a temperature of 200 degrees Celsius.
8) After the flat iron, rest the hair for 15 minutes, rinse thoroughly and wash with the conditioner.
9) Remove excess water with a towel and blow dry.

Directions For Use
Tight Curls, Coily & Resistant Hair
Type 3C – 4C curls
Full strength
230 degrees
Curly to Wavy Hair
Type 2C – 3B
Dilute with 50ml of bottled water
230 degrees
Wavy, Fine or Soft Hair
Type 2A – 2B
Dilute with 100ml of bottled water
200 degrees
Chemically Treated, Bleached or Damaged Hair
Dilute with 100ml of bottled water
180-190 degrees
1) Wash the hair our Amino Acid & Keratin Shampoo.
2) Rinse off till the shampoo is completely removed.
3) Remove excess water with a towel and then blow dry.
4) Apply the product with a brush, log by log leaving 1 cm from the roots.
5) Blow dry the hair using a rounded brush in order to straighten the hair while it is being blow dried.
6) After the hair is straightened, pass a flat iron 7-9 times over the hair at a temperature of 230 degrees Celsius for non bleached hair or 200 degrees Celsius for bleached hair.
8) After the flat iron, rest the hair for 15 minutes, rinse thoroughly and wash with the conditioner.
9) Remove excess water with a towel and blow dry.
