Color-Treated Hair and Brazilian Straightening: Important Information
At Formula 29, we strive to provide high-quality haircare products and treatments. While our Brazilian straightening formula is designed to smooth and strengthen hair, it is important to note that color-treated hair may experience some lifting or fading of tint during the treatment.
This occurs because:
- The treatment process involves opening the hair cuticle to allow smoothing agents to penetrate deeply, which can shift or lighten color molecules.
- Heat applied during the process, such as from a flat iron, may impact hair color, especially on porous or previously treated hair.
Tint vs Toners: While permanent colours are not affected by Brazilian Treatments, toners are not permanent and will be stripped off. The good news is that you can re-tone your hair with an acidic toner.
To minimize this effect, we recommend that you consulting with your stylist or our team to determine the best approach for your specific hair type and colour.

How long will it last:
Up to 38-50 washes depending on hair type, application of treatment and post treatment products used on hair.
Aftercare:
To maximize the lasting effect of the treatment we recommended Formula 29 Shampoos & Conditioners for use post-application.
Like all other straightening treatments, it will not survive conditions such as pool or ocean waters.
Directions For Use
Tight Curls, Coily & Resistant Hair
Type 3C – 4C curls
Full strength
230 degrees
Curly to Wavy Hair
Type 2C – 3B
Dilute with 50ml of bottled water
230 degrees
Wavy, Fine or Soft Hair
Type 2A – 2B
Dilute with 100ml of bottled water
200 degrees
Chemically Treated, Bleached or Damaged Hair
Dilute with 100ml of bottled water
180-190 degrees
1) Wash the hair with a Formula29 shampoo and blow dry.
2) Apply the product with a brush, log by log leaving 1 cm from the roots.
3) Keep the product on the hair for 15 minutes.
4) Blow dry the hair while straightening with a comb or brush. Dont panic if it gets sticky. Work through it.
7) After the hair is dry, pass a flat iron 7-9 times over the hair at a temperature of 200 degrees celcius for blonde or bleached hair and 230 degrees celcius for other hair types.
8) After the flat iron, rest the hair for 15 minutes, rinse thoroughly and wash with the conditioner.
